Threats towards Red Pandas
Human interference is the biggest threat towards Red Pandas. Some threats towards the Red Panda are Deforestation(Logging), Poaching and Traps.
Deforestation Humans keep cutting down trees unnecessarily to make more paper. Cutting down trees is the same as cutting down homes. Without homes, Red Pandas are forced to move into more isolated areas of the forest that lack bamboo. Without bamboo, the Red Panda's nutrition levels will be lower, and they will die. Poaching Humans keep killing Red Pandas for their fur, coats and skin. In China, a Red Panda's tail is considered good luck and is often used in weddings. Hunting Red Pandas will affect the population greatly as many of them will be killed by the process. Traps Humans keep setting up traps for wild pigs and deer but Red Pandas keep falling in them. Some manage to escape, but most get stuck and killed. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WITHOUT RED PANDAS Without Red Pandas, bamboo will grow rapidly and take up a lot of space. Also, animals who eat the Red Panda (Examples: Snow Leopard, Yellow-Necked Martens) would have a lesser food choice and they would have to start fighting for food. In addition to that, without Red Pandas eating and producing stool to fertilise the ground, the ground might not be as fertile as before and might not be able to grow anything. |
